AlcoholEdu For College – Instructions & Other Information for Students
As part of our comprehensive prevention and education programs, UCSC requires all freshmen and transfer students, 24 years of age and younger, to successfully complete AlcoholEdu for College (AEdu), an online, interactive, and non-opinionated alcohol education program. Alcohol is a significant issue for students throughout high school, college, and beyond. Whether or not you choose to drink, AEdu will empower you to make informed decisions about alcohol and help you better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers.
What about students who have already completed AEdu? If you previously completed AEdu, you can request to have the course waived. You must email Paul Willis at shop@ucsc.edu no later than 9/14/12 with your full name, UCSC student ID#, name of the college and year that you completed AEdu.
The UCSC Start Date is August 21, 2012. This is the first date that you will be able to access AEdu. Note that you can ONLY enter your course from the MyUCSC portal. You will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities. AEdu supports Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. Please complete the course from 1 of these 3 browsers. Disable all pop-up blockers and set your browser to accept cookies from alcoholedu.com BEFORE linking to the course from your MyUCSC. You also will need an activated UCSC email address. If you have not yet done so, please go to my.ucsc.edu and click on "Manage Your CruzID Account".
AEdu consists of 2 parts with a required 45-day break in between. It is very important that you complete Part 1 by 9/20/12 and Part 2 by 11/12/12. Students who do not complete the full course will be unable to enroll in winter quarter classes. AEdu includes three surveys that provide cumulative data on student alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors. Individual student responses, surveys, and exams remain confidential and cannot be viewed by campus administrators, staff, parents or others.
Allow two to three hours for Part 1, which includes the bulk of the course, pre and post surveys and the course exam. You must earn a grade of 80 or higher to pass. You may retake the exam, as needed. The deadline to successfully complete Part 1 is September 20, 2012. Forty-five days after you complete Part 1, you will receive an e-mail advising you to return for Part 2, the final survey and module that take 15 minutes to complete. This concludes the course. The deadline to complete Part 2 and the full course is November 12, 2012. Students who do not complete AEdu will be unable to enroll in Winter Quarter courses. To begin:- Sign in to your MyUCSC.
